The “Nicoyasur”is located south of Guanacaste and stretches out into the Pacific ocean. It belongs to the Province of Puntarenas and is divided from the mainland by the Gulf of Nicoya. Its geographic location used to set it ”off the beaten track”, and in the past, it seems only those who were looking for an alternative life style “out of the world” found their way to this magic peninsula on latitude 10O.
Times have changed, and nowadays many tourists are attracted by what this tropical Peninsula in Costa Rica has to offer in particular. The foreign community has grown notably and many creative people, artists, therapists and families with children have settled in the area.
Nevertheless the region has maintained its unique character – the quiet rural countryside life of Costa Rican farmers is a still present reality, and even in the lively beach villages along the coast you barely encounter large hotels, Condomniums or large apartment buildings. The Peninsula still mainly caters to the individual traveller getting around by rental car or bus.
Guests can choose from a wide range of accomodations; budget cabinas and cheap hostels attract the younger crowd looking for surf and adventure, families will find comfortable hotels or bungalows to rent, while the distinctive traveller will encounter lovely Boutique Hotels & Spas or luxurious Vacation Villas in Mal Pais, Sta. Teresa, Montezuma and Tambor. Look up which places are recommendable! |
